This view provides a better perspective on activity and performance among the large population of community banks and thrifts that serve local communities across the U.S. And this state view provides additional insight as to where these community banks and thrifts are chartered and located. Data is as of Q1 2019 from FDIC Call Reports.

Loan growth was experienced YoY across Community Banks of all sizes.
Several states stand out with significant levels of smaller Community Banks (< $500 million in total assets):
Illinois - $35 billion in total loans
Texas - $34 billion in total loans
Iowa - $27 billion in total loans
Minnesota - $25 billion in total loans
Missouri - $25 billion in total loans
Wisconsin - $23 billion in total loans
